12 cops, civilian receive awards

FOR their “quick response” to the call of the community, 12 police officers and one civilian responsible for the recovery of a trunk containing counterfeit US bonds were awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) last week.

DILG Undersecretary for Special Concerns Joselito Ruiz presented a plaque of recognition to operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

“Your prompt action has prevented the circulation of US$3 trillion (in) United States Federal counterfeit bonds that could have brought in numerous foreign and local victims and aggravated the economic status of the same,” Ruiz said.

CPPO Director Carmelo Valmoria and Argao Police Chief Teodulfo Manatad III accepted the award during the flag-raising ceremony at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7.

Awardees

Included in the award were policemen SPO1 Wilfredo Tauto-an, SPO2 Reynaldo Rubia, SPO1 Zorobabel Oyangoren, PO3 Ruben del Mar, PO2 Eliezer Canada, PO1s Rodrigo Teo, Von Tecson, Eduardo Semilla, Rey Antonio Saga and Jordan Balderas and civilian employee Rommel Teo.

“You have once again proven your vow to serve the republic and you served as a model not only to your department but also to the DILG family. May I, therefore, commend (you) for such performance and may all public servants emulate your warmth and sincerity in serving the Filipino people,” Ruiz said.

The trunk was abandoned in a banana grove in Barangay Talaga, Argao.

Active

Valmoria assured that this was “still an active case.”

He is awaiting communication from the US Embassy, the first agency he informed about the discovery.

Samples of the bonds found in each compartment of the trunk were sent to the US Embassy for analysis, although police and US Honorary Consul John Domingo earlier pointed out signs the recovered documents were bogus.

Efforts to identify and locate the person who dropped the trunk in Argao town are also ongoing. (MEA)
