Sports commission gets pledges of support

SOME government agencies and sports associations have confirmed their support to the sports program of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The program was presented to stakeholders during the PSC Stakeholders Summit last Friday at the Bayview Hotel in Manila.

“We received positive response from our stakeholders and they are all willing to do their part to help our sports program,” said Fr. Vic Uy.

Invitation

Some of those invited in the daylong summit that expressed their support were the different national sports associations and government agencies such as the Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Department of Education, Philippine Information Agency, Department of Health and Department of Trade and Industry.

Also discussed in the summit was the comprehensive sports program for 2008-2010.

“We want to strengthen our grassroots sports development and the Philippine Sports Institute,” Uy said.

History

The Philippine Sports Institute was established by Ramirez during the early parts of his tenure to help educate the national athletes.

Aside from this, Uy said they are planning to put up regional training centers that would benefit national athletes.

This way, national athletes need not be uprooted from their hometowns as they can have their trainings in their own regions.

The center could also help out in the grassroots program of the PSC. (MCB)
