Tuesday, November 13, 2007 CPPO head satisfied with Talisay PNP chief
CEBU Provincial Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria plans to meet with Talisay City Police Station Chief Romeo Perigo to find out why Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu, first district) complained about Perigo’s performance.
“I am satisfied with his (Perigo) performance, but I will look into the complaint of Congressman Gullas,” Valmoria told reporters.
He said that while Perigo has shown accomplishments in illegal gambling and drugs, having seized several video carrera machines, he said Gullas may have observed some aspects that he failed to see.
Gullas, in a speech made before the mass oath-taking of recently elected barangay officials, told Perigo to “shape up.”
Comprehensive plan
He stopped short of asking Perigo to pack up because of an allegedly dismal performance in getting rid of illegal gambling and drugs.
“The times are gone when the Talisay City Police Station became the number one police unit among the component cities in Central Visayas,” he had said.
Before Gullas expressed disappointment over Pe-rigo’s performance, Val-moria said he met Perigo last Friday and they discussed a comprehensive plan to address the drug problem, particularly in Barangay Tangke.
They also plan to create a Special Weapons and Tactics team for Tali-say City.
The Talisay City Police Station has been identified as a pilot area for the Community Oriented Policing System program of the National Police Commission.
Surprised
Valmoria said this was brought up during the Regional Peace and Order Council meeting and that Napolcom officials visited Talisay City to check on their performance. He added that there were some incidents that were immediately solved the next day.
Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez also has not complained about Perigo’s performance, which was why he was surprised to read about Gullas’ sentiments in the papers.
Meanwhile, he directed Perigo to begin operating a police outpost in Barangay Tabunok yesterday.
Six personnel have initially been assigned to the outpost. (MEA)
