Cardinal praises scholarship

CEBU Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal expressed his joy and gratitude for the move of the Priests-Alumni of the Diocesan Seminaries (Pads) of Cebu to help the archdiocese fund the studies of poor seminarians.

Pads-Cebu 2007 President Rev. Fr. Reymilo Talaugon said they are giving financial assistance to these seminarians through scholarships.

“In fact, since I was ordained in 1986, Pads was already existing and helping seminarians start or continue their studies,” said Talaugon.

They organized activities such as cultural shows to raise funds for this purpose.

One of the shows was staged last Tuesday night at the Cebu International Convention Center as part of Pads’ homecoming celebration this year.

It featured seminarians in a dance number and dance drama, among others.

“May we all be an inspiration and example to our future priests as we continue to devote ourselves lovingly to our ministry,” Talaugon told his fellow priests during the show.

In an earlier interview with the prelate, Vidal appealed to the people to help preserve, encourage, and fund more than 400 seminarians in Cebu who come from poor families.

With gratitude, he also called on the members of Pads to pray hard and work harder to minimize “clerical errors and so-called inappropriate actions.”

“I know and you know (that) we are no angels. But thank God, as ordained ministers of God, of Christ, and of the Church, we are gifted with the grace to stand up and go as shepherds to verdant pastures and restful waters and right paths, however dark the valley,” he said in the homecoming mass last Wednesday.
