Cops’ shootout kills 1

ONE of the two victims in the shootout between two policemen last Sunday on Garfield St., Barangay Pahina San Nicolas, Cebu City died after three days of fighting for his life.

Rowel Tanduyan Abarri, 27, died Wednesday midnight due to gunshot wound in his forehead. The slug pierced Abarri’s forehead and went through the back of his head.

He was confined at the South General Hospital.

Lionedes, Abarri’s cousin, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that the victim left behind a daughter and a seven-month pregnant wife.

Lionedes said Abarri’s body now lies in state in his house in Abbya, Alaska Mambaling.

Amend charges

Because of this, Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), through the Homicide Section, will be filing in court an amendment to the earlier charges they have filed against PO1 Luther Lapinig.

Lapinig, an operative of the Regional Intelligence Office, was earlier charged with two counts of frustrated homicide for injuring Abarri and Dario Ybańez Encarnacion, 43, in a shootout with PO3 Inocencio Lumayag Jr. of the Carbon Police Station.

The two, who were in civilian outfits, did not recognize each other, resulting in the shootout.

Comendador, CCPO director, said they will be filing an amended case of homicide against Lapinig following Abarri’s death.

Comendador said a higher bail bond may be recommended against Lapinig considering that his case will be elevated to homicide. (JST)
