Friday, November 16, 2007 Warrant issued for Nigerian accused of fraud
A BENCH warrant has been issued against the Nigerian national who allegedly encashed forged American Express traveler’s checks.
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 8 Judge Macaundas Hadjirasul issued the warrant after Antonio Foxx Onome did not show up yesterday for his arraignment.
Judge Macaundas also ordered that Onome’s bail bond of P40,000 be canceled.
Jackson has been charged before the court for attempted estafa through falsification of commercial documents.
He was arrested last Sept. 21 by the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly encashing forged American Express travelers checks.
Jackson, who claimed to be an American, encashed the fake checks at the Adventure International Tours Inc., the local travel representative of American Express in the Philippines, and walked away with $6,000.
He would have pocketed over $3,450 more if not for the NBI that acted on the report.
The US Embassy said there is no American by the name of Onel Foxx Jackson in the country. NBI investigators later found Jackson’s real name—Antonio Foxx Onome of Nigeria.
The branch manager of the Adventure International Tours coordinated with the NBI after learning that the checks Jackson had been exchanging for cash at their office were fake. (KNT)
