Jaca vs. Miyagi fight ends in draw again

JIMREX Jaca’s grudge against Japanese Ryu Miyagi remains unsettled after their 10-round bout ended in another frustrating technical draw last Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia car park in Pasay City.

The two fighters also figured in a draw early this year.

With no less than the WBC president Jose Sulaiman in attendance, the much-anticipated brawl came to a crashing thud after Miyagi suffered a deep cut on his forehead following an accidental head butt, according to a report posted at Philboxing.com.

Jaca was controlling the tempo and was about to release a haymaker when the incident and the fight was officially stopped at the 2:36 mark of the first round.

Unlike the first meeting, when the Japanese fighter downed Jaca twice in the first round while getting downed himself in the first, Jaca dominated the bout and connected crisp jabs.

A three punch combo left no room for Miyagi to retaliate but as Jaca was ready to unleash the finale, the clash of the heads ensued and the fight was abruptly stopped, denying those who wanted to watch a classy ending.

Jaca’s manager Rex “Wakee” Salud is now contemplating of bringing the fight to Cebu to settle the score once and for all before sending Jaca to the US for his next fight.

Meanwhile, Arnel Tinampay (7-7-1, 2KOs) scored a unanimous decision to win the vacant RP welterweight belt over Dondon Sultan (15-9-1, 7KOs).

After 12 rounds of grueling exchange, two judges scored the bout, 118-110, while the third tallied it 120-108 all for Tinampay, who was one of the four fighters used by Manny Pacquiao as sparring partners during his preparation against Marco Antonio Barrera. (RCM)
