Saturday, November 17, 2007 Cab passenger shoots driver dead in Talisay
A TAXI driver was shot dead by a robber, believed to be his own passenger, in an uphill village of Linao, Talisay City Thursday night.
Alejandro Geverola, 34, married, of Usmad, Argao town, Cebu, died from a bullet wound in the neck below the right ear, said PO2 Harrison Quiñanola of the Talisay City PNP Homicide Section.
The slug, which was found inside the cab and submitted for examination to the PNP Crime Laboratory, reportedly exited through his left check.
As of yesterday, the police could not determine yet the caliber of the firearm.
Quiñanola quoted a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver as saying that Geverola’s TC taxi was last seen taking a right turn at the corner of Sitio San Miguel, Linao around 10 p.m.
The taxi was seen carrying a passenger in the front seat.
“But the witness could not say whether the victim’s passenger was a man or a woman, or had companions in the back seat.
We’re still checking on this,” added Quiñanola, who responded to the crime scene.
Remote
The homicide investigator described the area where the taxi was found as remote and dark, about two kilometers from the national highway and near the Talisay City jail in Barangay Maghaway.
Quiñanola believes Geverola was a robbery victim because all his day’s earnings were lost. Lawmen recovered only his wallet, which was kept in the taxi’s dashboard, containing P275.
Nena Calibog, the TC taxi caretaker, also described Geverola as a good man and honest driver.
Quiñanola said the taxi has been temporarily kept in the custody of the PNP Crime Laboratory in Cebu City for further examination. (GC)
