Villar to open Inter-City Games today

THE MULTI-million endeavor of the Inter-City Basketball Tournament will come off the wraps today in Bogo City.

Tournament organizer Lorenzo ‘Chao” Sy said that basketball patron Senate president Manny Villar will be the guest of honor in the opening ceremonies, which will be held at the Celestino Martinez Sports Complex.

Villar has a speaking engagement in Mandaue City, where he will be with Mayor Jonas Cortes. He will go directly to Bogo in time for the opening ceremonies.

Villar had committed to give the cash prizes for the tournament, which is being participated by other LGUs namely Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Toledo and Danao.

A motorcade around Bogo participated by the competing teams will mark the official opening of the tournament. Game proper starts at 5:30, where Cebu, which is being coached by councilor Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, will square off with Talisay.

Home team Bogo will then take center stage in the main offering against Lapu-Lapu City. The tournament is supported by Pepsi Cola, Nature’s Spring, Focus Lamp, Smart and Hotel Fortuna.

The tournament stakes a hefty cash prize for the winning team. The prizes, however, will not directly go to the team but to the LGU, which will use the money for community projects. (MCB)
