Barangay chief to lead seizure of video carrera
HEEDING the call of Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas (Cebu, 1st district), Tabunok Barangay Captain Manuel Cabriana yesterday told video carrera operators to stop their unlawful trade in Talisay City.
Cabriana said that starting this week he will ask the police to confiscate all video carrera machines and file appropriate charges against the machines’ caretakers.
“I’ve already warned these caretakers that they can be penalized with higher fines. If they continue to ignore my warning, I will be forced to seize these machines,” he said.
Cabriana said he got initial information that caretakers have been operating coin-operated machines in Sitios Molave, Mananga and Colis, Tabunok.
Caretakers
He could not say, though, who are the operators of these video carrera units and if they are from Cebu City or Talisay, saying he still has to check it.
“But one thing for sure, I’ll have to ask the police to raid and confiscate these video carrera units starting next week,” he added.
The Talisay City Police Station, he said, has already assigned a police team, composed of neophyte policemen, to back his tanods.
Engineering
Cabriana said the soon-to-be-built police outpost near the Mananga Bridge could help curb the operations of video carrera and illegal drugs as well as prevent multicab heists.
Sun.Star Cebu learned that the City Engineering Office has already submitted to the mayor’s office the project’s program of work worth at least P200,000.
In last month’s oath-taking of all newly-elected barangay captains and kagawads in Talisay City, Gullas lambasted City Hall officials and the local police for ignoring the resurgence of video carrera and the increasing operations of illegal drugs.
Gullas even blamed his political ally, Mayor Socrates Fernandez for allegedly taking lightly the resurgence of this social menace.
Employees
In the same speech, Gullas also took potshots at Fernandez for not heeding his call to slash the more than 800 job-order employees by half, so City Hall can save at least P2-million a month.
The monthly savings, he added, can be used to finance scholarship grants to poor-but-deserving Talisaynons and build a four-story new Talisay City College. (GC)
