Guns seized from 53-year-old man
OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 arrested a 53-year-old man from Barangay Quiot in Cebu City for possession of assorted firearms and bladed weapons.
Chief Insp. Rex Derilo, CIDG 7 intelligence and investigation section chief, identified the suspect as Ireneo C. Baclayon Jr.
Through a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Fortunato de Gracia Jr., the operatives raided the house of Baclayon at 6 a.m. last Sunday.
The operation was initiated after a confidential agent informed the CIDG 7 last Nov. 14 that Baclayon was keeping an “undetermined number of long and short firearms of different calibers.”
Surveillance
Derilo told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that they conducted three days of surveillance on Baclayon to verify the information, which turned out to be true.
The CIDG 7 applied for a search warrant from the court, which Judge de Gracia issued last Saturday.
Seized during the operation were a Norinco .45 pistol, a Colt .45 pistol, a .38 revolver, a magazine for a .45 pistol, a homemade shotgun, two .22 Airguns, 16 pieces of .45 live ammunition, 10 bullets for a .22, 10 live ammunition for a .38 and three knives.
Procedure
Charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, a violation of Republic Act 8294, will be filed against Baclayon.
Derilo said that as a matter of procedure in relation with the CIDG 7’s investigation in the killing of Japanese businessman Hiroshi Kusaka, they will submit the .45 pistols to the PNP 7 Crime Laboratory for ballistics examination.
He said they want to compare the slugs and empty shells used in Kusaka’s killing last Nov. 13 to the bullets recovered from Baclayon.
Derilo, however, clarified that Baclayon is not yet considered a suspect in Kusaka’s killing. (JST)
