Pharmaceutical firm launches generic drugs arm in Cebu

In response to the government’s initiatives to make available to the public affordable medicines, Sanofi-Aventis launched in Cebu its generics arm, Winthrop Pharmaceuticals Philippines Inc.

Winthrop offers quality healthcare at affordable rates. It develops generic drugs for metabolic, cardiology, thrombosis and pain.

Since it develops, manufactures and markets generic drugs following the Sanofi-Aventis Group’s world-class standards, its products are of high quality, in terms of product efficacy and safety.

Mito Raagas, Winthrop business development director, said the company supports government initiatives to improve healthcare delivery.

“Winthrop will make quality, affordable medicines more accessible to all because Filipinos are at the heart of our business,” he said.

The Cebu launching of the company last Friday was attended by Undersec-retary Teddie Elson Rivera, president and chief executive officer of the Philippine Trading Corp. Pharma; and Dr. Lakshmi Legaspi, officer-in-charge of the assistant regional director’s office at the Center for Health Development for Central Visayas.

Winthrop is present in 22 countries throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Africa and intends to expand rapidly in other countries. (PR)
