By Nelia G. Neri

THE Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) was on centerstage during the 33rd Philippine Business Conference at the Manila Hotel for once again claiming the honor of being the Most Outstanding Chamber in the Philippines (its third consecutive award). In fact, this year’s feat has elevated CCCI to the Hall of Fame. The award is the result of CCCI’s exemplary performance as a model business support organization and its accomplishments in the areas of implementation of an advocacy program, partnership with government, growth of membership base, trade and investment promotion, sponsorship of local outreach and community development programs.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo conferred the award to CCCI represented by its president Francis Monera together with members of the board of trustees Prudencio Gesta, Samson Tiu, Benjamin Avila, Michael Basubas, Ed Limtingco, Clarito Fruelda, Jose Ng and external affairs official representative Felix Taguiam.

A celebration was definitely in order and it came a week or so later with a dinner party at Laguna Garden.

The 84th anniversary of the Proclamantion of the Republic of Turkey was marked with formal reception at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel Cebu (MPPHC)with Honorary Consul General Leontina "Tina" L. Benedicto playing host. Very much in the limelight too was DFA Undersecretary Francisco Benedicto, Tina’s ever supportive spouse who is a known figure in the diplomatic circle. Special guests were Ambassador and Mrs. Adnan Basaga of Turkey who earlier in the day made courtesy calls on the provincial and city officials.

It was a beautiful interlude of music at the Grand Ballroom of the Cebu City Marriot Hotel when the A. Salonga School of Music presented about 120 students in a recital.

The musical concert, dubbed “The Journey,” was the 19th annual recital of the school.

Women Legends, the spoof-cum-fashion-show presentation of the Zonta Club 1 unfolds at the MPPH ballroom on Monday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. The show is directed by Dr. Mila Espina, the club’s dynamo, who also did the script and so many other things. The fund-raising affair (for Quota’s numerous projects) starts with cocktails at 6pm.

Don’t miss the show—it’s full of funny scenes!

A piano recital, dubbed Next Generation Soloists, is set for Nov. 28, at the Cenewof Theater of the Cebu Press Center. Featured artists are young piano talents Rudolf Pelaez Golez and Chloe Borromeo Canton.
