No. 2 Mandaue inching closer to oblivion

IT’S a reversal of fortune!

Overall No.2 team Cebu Landmasters-Mandaue City is on the brink of elimination against the darkhorse team, which everybody has beaten.

Tonight, the Arthro Kontra Arthritis, seeded No.4 overall, will try to march to the division championship as they host the Landmasters for Game 2 of the 2007 MVBA Second Conference Visayas Division playoffs at the Cebu Coliseum.

Lacking two of its prized stalwarts, center Rino Berami and power forward Michael Luga, who are currently playing with the University of the Visayas Green Lancers in the Collegiate Champions League in Manila, coach Al Solis will again rely on the quickness and sharp-shooting skills of Alex Cainglet and Doroteo Almacin.

In Game 1, the Kontra Arthritis squad pulled an 81-74 upset over the host Landmasters last Friday, with two men short.

Arthro dominated most part of the game behind the 23 points of Almacin and Cainglet’s 16 markers.

Providing a lot of help in both offense and defense is point guard Mark Ababon who pitched in 16 points.

On the Landmasters side, swingman Richard Ian Saladaga and Bong Marata provided the scoring, but the minimal contribution of Mark Yee and Mike Manigo were the bone in Mandaue City’s campaign. (RCM)
