Friday, November 23, 2007 TCC coach cites discipline in POF triumph
TRAINING, discipline and perfect practices were the key factors in Team Cebu City’s success in the recently concluded 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival 15-Under football which wrapped up Sunday.
This was cited by coach Glen Ramos during the Scoop forum yesterday at Baseline Restaurant.
Though the team is composed of players from different schools, with 10 from Don Bosco, three from the Cebu International School, two from Springdale and one each from Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, Abellana National School and Center for International Education, Ramos got them to work together as a team.
Don Bosco earned the right to represent Cebu after winning the local eliminations, while Ramos reinforced the team with the top players from other schools.
The team also finished with an unblemished 6-0 record and allowed only one goal.
In the elimination, they beat Masbate, 5-1; blanked the teams from Parañaque (8-0), Bukidnon (2-0) and Quezon City (10-0) and dethroned defending champion Davao, 3-0, in the semifinals before scoring the 1-0 escape against Iloilo in the finals.
Ramos said it was a tough route toward the national finals as they had to meet tough teams from Barotac and Sta. Barbara during the Visayas eliminations.
Ramos said the teams from Iloilo were skillful but he told his boys not to worry since they too are very skilfull.
With the win, Ramos has already collected three championship crown after the Coke-go-for Goal 16-under in 1996 and the Millennium Palaro Championship in 2000. (NSM)
