15 teams sign up for Sanchez Cup

A TOTAL of 15 teams will be competing for the First Vice-Gov. Greg Sanchez Cup Men’s Softball Christmas tournament scheduled to hit bases next Sunday in Talisay City.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled to open today, was moved back a week later because of the current state of the playing field, which was damaged by the continuous showers early this week.

According to tournament organizer Dionisio Bacarisas, this is the first officially sanctioned event by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asa-Phil) through the Amateur Softball Association-Cebu City chapter headed by Doroteo Salazar.

Nine teams are participating in the Seniors B division, while six will slug it out in the Seniors A class.

Last tournament’s Senior’s B champion St. Vincent Padres, who will now wear the Grand Royal Spa uniform, will be tested against the Masong Brothers, Paknaan-Mandaue City, Basak Sluggers, Lagtang-Talisay, Sibonga, Lilo-an, Pusok-Team B and Poblancion-Talisay.

On the other hand, emerging power Isle Of Man will have its hands ready for the heavy challenges of Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology, Aldritz Pau Liniment, Tony Calnik, Locan and Carcar Royale.

“Again we will await a very tough competition especially in the Seniors A division where the games are expected to be close and highly competitive.

But we can not also disregard the Seniors B competition, since this tournament is also loaded with former varsity players and true-blooded softball lovers,” said Bacarisas. (RCM)
