Sunday, November 25, 2007 USPF humbles Jaguars, 3-2
UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) handed University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) its first loss, 3-2, in the first game of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football tournament at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) football field yesterday.
Michael Nierra of USPF struck the first goal in the 27th minute before USJR’s Adrianne Mejaran answered with the equalizer two minutes later.
Mark Anthony Gallardo got USPF scored in the 55th minute and gave USPF a 2-1 advantage and John Christopher Casayan added another goal in a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give USPF a 3-1 commanding lead over USJR.
Adrianne Mejaran never gave up and also converted a penalty for USJR in the waning minutes of the game. But his effort wasn’t enough for the win.
Meanwhile, in the second game the University of Cebu (UC) salvaged a 1-1 draw with USC, the reigning champion.
It is USC’s second draw of the tournament after getting held to a 2-2 draw by the University of the Visayas last week.
Both teams are still winless and are still looking for its first win in the tournament.
Patrick Uno of USC scored the first goal in the 20th minute and UC’s Jessie Roy Melgo tied the game 1-1 with the equalizer in the 84th minute of the game. (EKA)
