Monday, November 26, 2007 Speak out: In defense of men By Illo V. Cardosa Malabuyoc, Cebu
THIS is a reaction to a Speakout item that came out on Nov. 13 entitled “Fight for women’s rights continues” and was reprinted on Nov. 16 entitled “Governor and male chauvinism.”
I understand that the two different titles for one item were the editor’s option for reprinting it.
But what caught my attention were the hair-raising writer’s views on Filipino men whom he bastardized and branded as lazy, drunk, dependent and irresponsible that tended to destroy the morale of men.
As a man and husband my ego was hurt by the writer’s unsavory statements that only degraded and dishonored all men. The writer should not have generalized what he does not like in men.
While I admire the writer for being bold enough to challenge and write invectives against men, I disagree with what he wrote because we are not beholden to obey his command whatsoever.
