Serves ‘em right

JACOB Lagman and Sally Mae Siso paced the Cebuanos’ carnage in the Selangor International Tennis Championships at stake in this competition, which wrapped up yesterday in Selangor, Malaysia.

The Cebuanos won 10 of the 12 gold medals. Dominating all six singles contests in the Boys and Girls 10-under, 12- under and 14-under divisions, while taking home four gold medals in the doubles competition.

Lagman and Siso won their respective finals matches via upsets as both defeated top-seeded players in the competition.

Siso of University of San Carlos, on the other hand, completed a twin kill after trouncing No. 1 Theiviya Selvarajoo, 6-2, 6-1. Selvarajoo is Siso’s partner in the doubles competition, which they earlier aced.

Lagman of St. Benedict, who was seeded fourth in the Boys 12 division, carved out a hard-earned two hours and 30-minute win over top player Dusbionjit Singh, 7-6, 6-3.

Lagman, however, fell short in the doubles contest, where he and Singh only finished second, 4-6, 7-5, 4-6.

The older Siso, Bernardine Niño, mirrored her sister’s feat and defeated Kevin Loke, 6-3, 6-1, in the Boys 14 finals. He later won his second gold when he and partner Pearljit Singh won over Ahmad Deedat and Mohd Imran 6-0, 6-0.

Another player pulling off a double victory was Tuburan’s Vince Marc Tabotabo. Tabotabo won the singles title in the Boys 10 division following a 7-5, 6-1 win over Chin Yen Toh. He and Bio Talha later survived the gritty pair up of Afq Irfan and Adeep Zahar, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3, for the doubles title.

The Sisos are supported by Tavos Sports, USC, Dunlop, Jonathan Guardo, Primary Structures Corp and Commonwealth Estates Inc, while Tabotabo’s trip is backed by Cebu Vice Governor Greg Sanchez and his school Jose Rizal University.

The competition shifts venue in Penang today for the second leg of the competition. (MCB)
