Monday, November 26, 2007 Talisay snaps Lapu-Lapu streak in Inter City
THE Talisay City Aquastars snapped the two-game streak of the Lapu-Lapu City Chiefs but proved to be vulnerable away from home in the on-going elimination round of the 1st Cebu Inter-City Basketball tournament.
At home last Friday, the Aquatars defeated the Chiefs, 87-82, mastery at the Talisay City Sports Gymnasium but succumbed to the might of the Bogo City Bogoys, 69-79, at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Memorial Coliseum in Bogo City last Saturday.
Raymund Tabar played like a man-possessed as he single-handedly toyed with the Chiefs, especially in the pivotal third quarter.
Tabar scored the game high 25 points, including 13 in the third that gave the Aquastars a good start in its debut in the league organized by BAP-SBP.
However, Tabar failed to repeat his wonders as he only scored nine points against the Bogoys, while Arvie Cabañero, who scored 18 in Talisay’s win over Lapu-Lapu, topped the Aquastars with 27 points.
The Bogoys, on the other hand, bounced back from their opening day loss at home with two wins in a row.
Last Friday, Bogo City dumped the debuting Danao City Pistoleros, 83-65, at the Danao City Civics Center before hosting the Talisay Aquastars last Saturday.
In both wins, former University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguar Jun Ace Ursal was unstoppable.
Against the Pistoleros, Ursal scored the tournament high 32 points, while tallying 30 against the Aquastars.
Danao, on the other hand, bounced from a frustrating defeat at home with a thrilling 85-82 victory over the Toledo City Dream Team over at the M. Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City. (RCM)
