Court orders arrest of Ilustrisimo suspect

A WARRANT of arrest has been issued against the alleged gunman in the fatal shooting of Sta. Fe mayoral aspirant Rogelio Ilustrisimo Sr. last May.

Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Ester Veloso of Branch 6 issued the warrant yesterday against former policeman Arnulfo Pigon Jr.

The warrant was addressed to the chief of police of Cupang, Antipolo City, Pigon’s last known address.

No bail

Upon his arrest, Pigon will stay behind bars during the course of the trial because no bail was recommended for him.

Meanwhile, Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Judge Francisco Seville also issued an arrest warrant against the driver of the trailer truck involved in a fatal motorcycle crash that killed a broadcaster.

Radio broadcaster Elisio “Ely” Carungay died in the crash sometime in May.

Jason Abella is facing a charge for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and less serious physical injuries and damage to property.

Carungay died after his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a trailer truck that bogged down at the South Road Properties (SRP). He suffered from severe head and abdominal injuries. His passenger, live-in partner Maricel Cal, was thrown off the motorcycle but suffered only minor injuries.

Donald Rivera, a member of Cebu City Traffic Operations Management team who responded to the accident, said in his affidavit that the first thing he noticed upon arriving was the absence of hazard lights on the parked trailer.

According to Rivera’s affidavit, there was an early warning device but it was not bright enough to warn drivers of the truck’s presence in the unlighted road.

Carungay gained prominence as a hard-hitting commentator of Bombo Radyo. (KNT)
