Tuesday, November 27, 2007 December ‘Payback’ offers crack for Boom-Boom return
THE Dec. 2 “Payback” promotion of Third Force Inc. at the Araneta Coliseum, is a monumental crack for the once-hugely popular Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista.
Bautista, who is on track to regain his lost glory, will fight Mexican Antonio “Barrio” Meza for the WBO Inter-Continental super bantamweight title for 12 rounds.
Learning from his mistakes when he lost to Daniel Ponce De Leon, Bautista has improved vastly over months of training at the ALA Gym.
“You will see a very different Boom-Boom Bautista on Dec. 2,” said ALA Gym trainer Edito Villamor. “He now realized that toughness comes with a good setup and good defense. He has added head movement but he still has the flurry to finish his opponent.”
Meza, however, comes equipped to shame Bautista at home.
The 25-year-old fighter from Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico is coming with a mission—to put his name on world boxing.
Meza, who has been working hard at the gym owned by former world champion Edgar Cardenas, already said that losing is not an option in coming to the Philippines.
“I cannot fail… I am going to bring to the Philippines the arsenal that I have… I know that it will be a difficult fight and that I should look for a knockout..Boom Boom ’is everybody’s idol in the Philippines and to win against him would definitely bring good things to me in the future,” Meza said in a report posted at a Mexican boxing website,www.boxnoti-cias.com.
