Tuesday, November 27, 2007 USC resets swim marks in Cesafi
THE University of San Carlos broke eight records in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. swimming contest at the Cebu City Sports Center pool last Sunday.
USC collected a total of 26 golds, 19 silvers and 10 bronzes in the collegiate division and had a 17-11-7 haul in the high school contest.
UC was second in the collegiate level with 9-12-4 with CDU taking third spot with a 5-4-4. The University of the Visayas took fourth place with 1-3-15.
Multi-awarded and international campaigner Loren Dale Echavez led the charge for USC as she reset five marks—including four of her previous records.
Echavez broke Paula Vega’s 1:19.58 mark in the 100 meter backstroke with a 1:16.99 finish and also set new records in the 200m Individual Medley with 2:41:40
(2:46.9), 200m freestyle with 2:20.75 (2:26.36), 50m freestyle with 29.37 (29.77 ) and the 100m freestyle with 1:05.70 (1:04.73).
The USC women’s relay team also reset their old 5:17.89 mark in the 400m freestyle relay with 5:09.40, while the boys team shaved some five seconds for a new mark of 4:16.57.
USC also set a new record in the 200m with 2:40.82, finishing ahead of USJ-R, whose time of 2:41.40 also bested last year’s record of 2:45.84.
USC’s Katrina Rubi and Clanel Celerio had five and four golds, respectively for USC, while Alexan Echavez and Maribeth Ababon had three each.
In the secondary, Noel Cañeda and Jeffrey Yana chipped in four and three golds, respectively, as UC finished second with 9-8-2, while USJ-R took third with. 3-7-12. (NSM)
