AT LEAST 1,000 representatives of 11 sectors will gather tomorrow for the culmination of the “Cebu City Plus 10” consultations, which will be used for the City’s growth map for the next 10 years.
The last of the series of consultations ended yesterday, where the business sector presented their plans for the growth and development of Cebu City in the coming years.
The output of the consultations with the youth and children sector; academe; faith-based groups; the vulnerable and the elderly; housing and environment; upland and coastal area dwellers; workers; the health sector; peace and order, safety and security; the professionals and the business sector will be presented at the plenary.
Each sector will also be represented at the commitment signing at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino tomorrow.
“A series of consultations were done in the last three weeks and it was a venue for the different sectors to tell other sectors what their needs are. Hopefully we can use the results to come up with a plan and set policies that will drive Cebu City’s growth in the next 10 years,” City Planning Officer Nigel Paul Villarete said.
In a phone interview, Villarete said the consultations resulted in a better understanding of each sectors’ needs and wants and how the sectors can help each other realize their aspirations for Cebu by 2017.
“Cebu City Plus 10” is a pet project of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, which he said will be the basis for their plans and policy direction to fast track the city’s growth and development.
Sen. Mar Roxas and other mayors in the Visayas and Mindanao also said earlier that they will be implementing the same concept on consultations to address their constituents’ needs.
In the consultations, the sectors’ representatives were asked to answer two questions: “What do you want your sector to be like 10 years from now?” and “What are the obstacles that will keep you from achieving your aspirations?” (LCR)
