Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Niño starts strong in 2nd leg of Malaysian tennis
BERNARDINE Niño Siso is up to the task of rising on top of the 128 entries in his division in the Penang Open International Age Group Tennis Championships 2007 at the University Sains Malaysia in Penang.
Yesterday, Niño, who is the top player for this leg of the four-part tennis circuit, lived up to his lofty billing and trounced Malaysia’s Revin Thiran, 6-3, 6-0, to move to the next round in the Boys 14-Under.
Niño of University of San Carlos South Campus is fresh off his twinkill in the first leg in Selangor, where he won both the singles and doubles titles.
Before leaving, Niño promised to brave all odds to win as many titles as he could in the Malaysia tilt as this will be his last chance to join. The tournament is only 14-year-old and under players and Niño will be moving up to another bracket next year.
He failed to compete with his sister last year because of budget constraints.
Meanwhile, Vince Marc Tabotabo of Tuburan, kicked out two players yesterday to move to the quarterfinal round of the Boys 10-Under. Tabotabo defeated Neo Khail Keat, 9-2, in the second round before ousting Singapore’s Raahil Divyesh Doshi, 9-2, in the third round.
He will be facing Jeon Seonglo of Korea in today’s quarterfinal.
Also competing in this event are Jacob Lagman, Crissiane Kintanar of Argao and Marian Capadocia of Davao City. They, along with Sally Mae, were still waiting for their scheduled matches. (MCB)
