Sogod starts strong in Prov. meet

SOGOD started its basketball campaign on a strong note in the Department of Education’s Provincial Meet in Balamban.

Sogod routed Alegria, 47-12, to tally its first win in the event that started last Sunday.

Meanwhile, in elementary boys volleyball, Argao beat Tuburan in Bracket A, while Catmon defeated Compostela. In the elementary girls division, Ronda won over Oslob.

In bracket B, host Balamban overpowered Samboan, Badian beat San Remigio and Minglanilla won over Medellin.

Results in the other games of the annual meet were unavailable at press time yesterday.

The annual event, which opened last Sunday in Mayor Esperanza S. Binghay Oval, attracted 6,354 delegates with 3, 821 athletes in both high school and elementary divisions.

The event had 15 sports events for the elementary division and 18 in the secondary contests.

The contests offered are archery, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, sepak takraw, sipa, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, and volleyball.

Aside from the athletic competition, the event also had the Math expo, English and Science festivals and also had nightly cultural contests at the town’s cultural center. (NSM)
