Friday, November 30, 2007 Serna: Deal or No Deal in Cebu By Roger Serna Sounds and Images
TYPHOONS are named after humans and are therefore regarded to have minds of their own (or so I believe). Did Typhoon Lando think its stint in Cebu was too brief for it to think it rightfully deserved a come back?
Silly. Fortunately, it spared our province and headed somewhere else before losing its strength, and leaving the country for good. Whew!
I hope that these natural phenomena, which are expected to visit the country before yearend, will have the “right frame of mind” to dissipate over the Pacific Ocean instead of enjoying a landfall and wrecking havoc in the process.
It’s almost Christmas and no matter how minimal the damage will be, still it’s very devastating and depressing. God help us!

Finally, I will be able to play my collection of Christmas albums from various artists starting tomorrow. I have made it a practice year after year to start playing Christmas songs and tunes on the first day of December to prevent my excitement for Christmas from dying away—long before the Christmas chill is even felt.
Also, glittering decors will show up both in the office and at home starting tomorrow. I hope this year’s Christmas will be merry for everyone despite the odds.

I really missed the fun, the bonding, the camaraderie and everything during the 25th anniversary bash of this paper due to a very urgent and unscheduled trip to the capital region.
That’s why my face is nowhere to be found in any of the anniversary features (sigh!). Anyway, the trip turned out to be enjoyable, educational and exhilarating. I’ll dwell on this in the near future.

Kris Aquino announced (and the network’s PR, too) that today and tomorrow her Deal Or No Deal team—including the faceless Banker and the 26K Ladies (one of them is a Cebuana)—will be in Cebu for one or two episodes of the high rating game show.
This, according to Kris, is the program’s gesture of gratitude to the Cebuanos and those in the Vis-Min area for patronizing it and making it No. 1 in the ratings. Truth to tell, I wait for the program to finish before going out again for any appointment in the evening—including going to the gym.
That’s how hooked I am to Deal Or No Deal. I hope plans to have it run only until yearend will not push through. ABS-CBN execs, are you listening?

Young stars Valerie Concepcion and Carlo Aquino are Rosemarie Gaisano’s celebrity guests next month when the raffle promo of Gaisano Main, Country Mall, Balamban and Bogo called A Million Thanks will have its first grand draw on Dec. 23.
A sale, which offers up to 50 percent discount, will run starting today till Dec. 2 at the mall’s veranda will afford the hopeful shopper in me with more chances of winning in the said raffle promo including the Mazda 3 grand prize.
If only Lady Luck smiles at me…

One evening, I caught Cebuano singer-turned-actor Jay-R Siaboc in one of the episodes of Pangarap na Bituin where the Pinoy Dream Academy runner-up is a mainstay.
Oh, the vertically challenged crooner is a natural actor after all. The ABS-CBN people who were behind Jay-R’s crossover to acting were right in tapping him for the role.
Fashion designer-turned-talent manager Mario Colmenares must be all smiles these days for the success of one of his wards. More power to both of you!

Listening to FM stations these days is not as enjoyable anymore as compared to some years back. The reason? FM deejays do more talk these days as if to compete with the AM stations’ program handlers and commentators. And most commercials sound so corny for comfort! In those past days, I tune in to FM stations to listen to my favorite music and nothing more. Good there’s the iPod, MP3 and MP4 to turn to these days when the urge to listen to uninterrupted music surfaces.
