Skincare old and new
By Zac Faelnar-Camara

TODAY'S spa culture has brought daily skin care routine beyond cleansing, moisturizing and toning, and innovative brands carry the perfect spa essentials for your home.

I would love to visit a spa every week if I could! I used to have girlish fantasies of flying to Italy by myself. Once there, I would bask in the luxury of an Italian spa, the Terme di Montecatini, to be exact. Located in enchanting Tuscany in Central Italy, this spa center, established in 1773, is one of Europe’s spa capitals. It is a verdant city nourished by volcanic earth. The mineral-enriched spa waters that flow from its springs are scientifically recognized for their therapeutic value.

In the early 90s, I discovered the luxury skin care brand, Princess Marcella Borghese, that sources from Montecatini’s thermal springs. Among Borghese’s products, I’ve sworn by the Effetto Immediato Spa-Comforting Cleanser and Spa Soothing Tonic for Sensitive Skin, CuraForte Moisture Intensifier and Fluido Protettivo Advanced Spa Lift for Eyes to diminish wrinkles.

Their most brilliant product comes in the form of mud that resembles an ill combination of play-doh resulting to a jungle green concoction jammed into a cookie jar. That cookie jar has since been my top-pick product responsible for catapulting my boring daily regimen into the level of a home spa!

The Fango Active Mud for Face and Body is mineral-enriched Italian mud.

Once applied thickly to the face, neck, and body, it sends a rejuvenating tingle until the mudpack dries up to a crackled finish. Upon rinsing, you will marvel at the revelation of beautiful skin that looks and feels detoxified and nourished!

Recently, I found another brilliant reason to postpone my spa appointments.

The galvanic treatment available at salons and
spas worldwide is based on the science and technology of applying electrically charged ions for skin therapy. It has been in use for over 200 years since Italian Luigi Galvani introduced it in 1791.

Just as my cookie jar had gone empty, I serendipitously discovered the Galvanic Spa System II by Nu Skin that includes a gadget resembling a sleek electric shaver with three interchangeable conductors especially contoured for the face, scalp and body, and tubes of Pre-Treatment and Treatment Facial Gels containing essential active ingredients. Although the galvanic current is very mild and almost unnoticeable, it is a powerhouse tool for promoting cellular energy to restore your skin back to youthful radiance!
