Luz families to get P10T each for fire

CITY Hall gave about P10,000 worth of assistance per family who lost their homes to a fire in Sitio Sta. Cruz, Barangay Luz Wednesday night.

City Councilor Gerardo Carillo reported that the fire affected 62 families and 209 individuals. He also said that 25 houses burned down.

He said the City Government would be giving food and material assistance for one week.

“We will be giving sacks of rice and food, construction materials, and other things they need like household utensils,” said Carillo, who estimated the assistance to be worth about P10,000 per family.

A lighted candle in a house without electricity started the fire that was declared a general alarm.

The alarm, which was reported at 7:54 p.m., required all fire stations in Cebu City and neighboring areas to respond.

Felisa Martinez rented the house where the fire started.

Cebu City Fire Marshal Esmael Codilla pegged the damage to property at P600,000.

The fire victims were given temporary shelter at the Luz Elementary School. (NRC)
