Engineer found dead inside hotel

AN AIRCRAFT engineer who just arrived from Central America was found dead in his hotel room in Cebu City past 10 a.m. yesterday.

Roberto Alemania, 56, had stab wounds and was already dead inside the bathroom. He had been stabbed with an ice pick.

He was only wearing a shirt and a pair of underwear.

SPO3 Alex Dacua of the Cebu City Homicide Section said they suspect robbery because Alemania’s cash, Rolex watch and cellular phones were missing.

Struggle

Littered in the bathroom were soap and other toiletry items, which could indicate that there was struggle.

In the room, the drawers had been opened and there was blood on the floor.

Dacua said their initial investigation showed Alemania was expecting a female guest Friday night.

Dacua suspected the woman could have arrived with a male companion, robbed and killed the victim.

Male companion

“The victim is of large build. It’s unlikely for the girl to commit the crime alone. She would need a male companion to do the job,” Dacua said.

Alemania was an aircraft engineer based in Trinidad and Tobago. He was from Luzon but was married to a Cebuana.

Dacua said Alemania arrived in Cebu last Wednesday and checked in at the hotel in Lahug.

Family in Mandaue

His wife and children live in Mandaue City, but he always stayed in the hotel every time he came to Cebu.

Alemania’s body was found by the hotel staff who did room service.

The staffer knocked on Alemania’s door but nobody answered.

They called his phone but still no answer.

So they forced open the door using the hotel’s key and found Alemania sprawled on the bathroom floor.

His remains now lie in Rolling Hills in Mandaue City. (MBG)
