Cesafi tennis pays respect for late coach

THE tennis competition of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. was at a standstill for the supposed opening yesterday in respect to the death of the coach of University of San Jose Recoletos.

Coach Rudy Rivera was laid to rest yesterday and Cesafi paid respect to the 71-year-old coach.

A few singles matches in the collegiate division were played yesterday, but the bulk of the matches will all be played today.

Coach Fritz Tabura, who is the tournament director of the competition, said that they only determined the complete roster of participants yesterday.

Six teams will now be competing in the tennis contest as Velez College and Cebu Doctors’ University will be fielding in their representatives. The two teams join the usual entries from University of Cebu, USJ-R, University of the Visayas and University of San Carlos.

Set to defend the singles division crown is Oswaldo Dumoran of UV. Dumoran will be joined by Ian Yape, Julianito Jopia and Gilbert Lorosota in the UV team. Singles and doubles titles will be up for grabs in the collegiate division.

The other Cesafi events that will happen today are table tennis, which will be held at the Hua-Ching Foundation, and chess at the Elizabeth Mall activity center with volleyball at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation. (MCB)
