Favorites rule Move 5k run

THERE were no surprises in the Move 5K Run as the seeded runners ruled their respective categories.

The Delposo brothers, Eugene and Joel from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation took the top two spots in the Open Category, while Leszl Getaruelas ruled the women’s division.

Eugene finished five seconds ahead of his younger brother Joel as he crossed the line at 15:48, while John Philip Duenas finished the race at 16:06 for the third spot.

The rest of the top 10 runners were Ian Bernido (16:21), Adonis Singson (16:40), Ramil Lumindas (16:47), Heronisio Padilla (18:21), Mark Dumpe (19:34), Abdul Sinai (20:27) and Jesus Baculi (22:02)

In the women’s division, Getaruelas, an aerobics instructor and a highly decorated runner and the local Marathon Queen, finish in 19:00, some 36 seconds ahead of second placer Mary Jane Beboso.

Joery Lee finished at 20:07 to settle for the third spot.

Those who made it to the top 10 were Michelle Gilbuena (22:03), Haziel Retavale (22:09), Marieta Balangue (26:22), Angela Perez (26:44), Cynthia Arnaiz (26:56), Grace Bautista (29:19) and Consuelo de Gracia (29:29).

In the wheelchair category, which only had six entries, Keith Roguero finished first ahead of Arnold Caballero and Antonio Abatol.

Race director Raffy Uytiepo yesterday said that the amputee category was canceled since there were no registered participants of the category.

Uytiepo also said that despite the absence of some of the local ace runners, the event was successful and organizers are already planning to stage two races next year. (NSM)
