Foundation celebrates 15th year

AFTER 15 years and close to 150,000 beneficiaries later, Kapwa ko, Mahal ko Foundation Inc. (KKMKFI) Cebu continues to grow with the community that it serves.

KKMKFI Cebu is a service organization aimed at developing a healthy community.

Its mission is to assist the marginalized sector of Cebu and its environs. Its primary strategy of bridging the donors and beneficiaries through its radio and television programs and other media-related institutions, remains to this day.

The core of the foundation’s work is in health services.

The most prominent among them is a special project for children with cancer dubbed “Pangga-a Sab Ko,” which assists underprivileged children with acute lymphocytic/lymphoblastic leukemia.

KKMKFI Cebu and its partners have cured 14 children while 23 others are currently undergoing treatment.

Supporting the resource generation efforts for ”Pangga-a Sab Ko” is the piggy-bank campaign in major commercial establishments in Cebu.

The radio program “Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko sa Radyo” aired over dySS every Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., provides a community forum on health advocacy.

The project Gadgets for Mobility that provides wheelchairs and crutches to the handicapped.

It also holds medical missions and focused missions (pap smear, Operation Tuli and bloodletting).

Benefactors

Benefactors, such as Bambi Premium Edible Oil, the Cebu City Government, the Cebu Provincial Government, GMA Network Inc., Metrobank Foundation, JEG Development Corp., New Pagcor and the Philippines Charity Sweepstakes Office have helped the foundation with its projects. Supporting the Adopt-A-Child With Cancer program are major sponsors International Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Simon Enterprises; and minor sponsors HSBC, WT Construction and an anonymous entity, help fund the projects.

KKMKFI Cebu’s corporate members include Borromeo Brothers Estate Inc., Cebu Grand Hotel, Cebu Holdings Inc., Cebu Progress Marketing, Filipinas Transport Inc., Golden ABC, Inc., Goldland Philippines Corp., Keppel Cebu Shipyard, Inc., San Miguel Corp., SM City Cebu, Sugarsteel Industries and Sungold Home and Office Furnitures.

The foundation’s strategies and linkages are built and directed by the Board of Directors led by Margot Osmeña, president; Hon. Fernan, Dr. Vivina Chiu Vivian Dyhongpo, OD, Dr. Mila Espina, Dr. Susana Deborah Limchiu, Letlet Mission, and Jeruel Roa.

The staff composed of Christine Escolano, foundation officer; Lolita Baguio, accounting officer, Fria Fe Panulde, health service desk coordinator; Rhea Barrita, office coordinator; and Maniel C. Maratas, messenger, provides the backbone in the day-to-day operation of the foundation.
