‘My son is not a cruel person’

ARISTOTLE “Aris” Aves, 26, has gained notoriety as a hitman of a fraternity with at least 13 crimes linked to his name the past four years.

Based on the statistics provided by the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section, Aves has been identified as principal suspect in six murders, including the drive-by shootings last October, eight frustrated murders, two attempted murders and one attempted homicide.

Aves’ mother, Josie, 50, however, said her son is not what the police is trying to portray him.

“He is a calm man. I could not say he is a very good son but I can assure you he is not a cruel person,” she said.

Aves was born on Dec. 22, 1980 in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

He is the eldest of two children.

Josie said her son joined Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity when he was senior student in one of the high schools in the city.

She said she did not prevent Aris from joining the fraternity but reminded him of the disadvantages of being a member.

After graduating from high school, Aves took up customs course at the University of Cebu but stopped attending classes when he was in third year after his name was linked to a shooting incident in 2004.

In December 2004, Josie said Aves left home. That was the last time she saw her son.

From time to time, Aves gets in touch with her by phone but the latter did not tell his whereabouts. (JST)
