Barrita: Hitman
By Eddie O. Barrita
Small Bites

CRACK police operatives led by Supt. Pablo Labra II, Senior Insp. George Ylanan and Chief Insp. Arnel Banzon Monday night collared drive-by killings suspect Aristotle Aves on board an Ormoc City-bound ferry.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will now have a “very clear picture” of the alleged Alpha Kappa Rho hitman.

***

The Cebu City government has put up a P300,000-bounty on Aves’ capture.

No, the police didn’t arrest the elusive fugitive for the money.

But they surely deserve more than just a pat on the back for the arrest of one of the most wanted persons in Central Visayas.

***

Liberal party leaders, who are grooming Sen. Mar Roxas as their presidential standard-bearer in 2010, are reportedly eyeing a Roxas-Garcia or a Roxas-Osmena ticket.

But for now, Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia said, she thinks she and Roxas will be “more interesting as a love team rather than a political tandem.”

I can see the mercury rising.

***

Mayor Osmeña is not taking the bait.

He’s foregoing all ambitions of running for a national position after his term as mayor ends in 2010.

He’ll just hang around in Cebu “helping incumbent Vice Mayor Michael Rama screen investors for Cebu.”

Did you hear that, Mike?

***

Metro Manila police director Geary Barias, while watching a fight featuring two Filipino boxers, said in jest he wished he and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV were the ones
slugging it out.

If only some grievances can be settled inside the ring.

***

A text message I got after the Trillanes caper said if they were only to stay for a “short time” at the Manila Peninsula, they should have gone to Victoria Court instead.

At the Victoria Court, there are no wedding receptions, only honeymoons.

And what happens there, stays there, the message said.

***

The Department of Justice has filed rebellion charges against Sen. Trillanes and 35 others.

Soon, the full force of the law will be meted out on them without any concession.

Wait a minute, the last time they did that pardon was swift.
