Thursday, December 06, 2007 All set for Batawang’s IBF title shot in Mexico
ALL is set for Bert Batawang’s journey to Mexico for his title quest against the reigning IBF light flyweight king Ulises Solis in Guadalajara on Dec. 15.
Originally scheduled for Dec. 8, the fight was moved a week later to give way for the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Ricky Hatton in the US.
“Everything has been arranged. We personally applied for our visa in Manila to avoid complications. We will be leaving on Dec. 10 and I hope there won’t be any changes any more,” Batawang’s manager Sammy Gello-ani told Sun.Star Cebu.
Batawang has been waiting for this fight and the long wait has made him more resolved to bring home the world title and join the elite champions of the Philippines.
Patience
“Bert is patient. His patience, however, will be translated into a very outstanding ring performance. Solis can’t duck us anymore. They can try to postpone the fight more but they only have until Jan. 25 to avoid Bert,” Gello-ani said when asked about the possibility of another postponement.
The first fight was slated on Sept. 16 then it was pushed back to Oct. 4 before IBF named Batawang as Solis’ mandatory challenger. (RCM)
