WILL Gary Shaw lose his second Filipino superstar?
Philboxing.com reported that Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, the reigning International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion, expressed his disappointment with the way he was treated by Shaw during his first defense against Luis Maldonado.
Donaire claimed Shaw, who also used to manage Manny Pacquiao, only gave him a month to prepare for the fight and during fight night, Shaw was in the front row with Maldonado’s family while Donaire’s family was a few rows back.
The Filipino champion also said his promoter was against his training in the Philippines and didn’t finance the trip.
“They never gave me money for my expenses and I had to borrow some money to help me go to the Philippines,” Donaire said in the report.
Donaire was way over the 112-pound mark and weighed around 140 pounds before he trained at the ALA gym.
“Each fight is getting harder than the last and in this fight (against Maldonado) I had a lot to lose. I need to take each fight seriously. They can’t just give me one month’s notice for each fight,” Donaire said.
Though he conceded there might have been some miscommunication between him and the promoter he said, “If they keep on doing that, I am not going to participate in any fight unless I’m ready.” (EKA)
