Saturday, December 08, 2007 Denoy’s different Christmas day: title fight
ALA Boy Along Denoy is set to defend his WBO Asia-Pacific light flyweight title against the quick-footed Nethra Sasiprapa of Thailand on Christmas Day in Thailand.
This is the first title defense of Denoy after scoring a fifth round TKO win over the erstwhile champion Kaichon Sor Vorapin last July 13 in Photharam of Rachaburi Province in Thailand.
It was their second meeting, the first, which was in July 2005, yielded a technical draw in favor of the Thai champion.
In their second meeting, Denoy was floored once in the second round but bounced hard in the next before putting down Kaichon twice on the fourth.
Two more knockdowns in the fifth prompted the referee to stop the contest and awarded the Candijay-Bohol native fighter with a TKO win at the 2:40 mark.
Kaichon was scheduled for a rematch in September but was reportedly forced to hang up his gloves because of the beatings he received from Denoy.
Denoy is currently carrying a 15-6-1, 8 KOs ring record.
Nethra, on the other hand, an orthodox fighter with a ring record of 18-1, 7 KOs.
His lone defeat was handed by Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina for the vacant WBA light flyweight belt last June.
A Pan-Asian Boxing Association champion for two years, Nethra holds six wins over Filipino fighters—the last was over Rey Orais, who was downed twice on the second round before going down for good on the third round. (RCM)
