UV coach comfy over win chance

UNIVERSITY of the Visayas coach Marsha Malbas yesterday said they have a big chance of keeping their title in the scrabble event in both college and high school levels in this year’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) games.

However, she said, ace scrabble wizard Teodoro Martus, Jr. will not be suiting up for the lineup in the tertiary level. Malbas said their preparations were hard.

Martus, on the other hand, is in Manila preparing for the grand finals of the Philippine Scrabble Open at the Mall of Asia set on Dec. 15-16, said Malbas.

She also expects the high school team to defend their crown this year after reigning supreme in the Cebu City Olympics last month.

Malbas considers the college team of the University of Cebu (UC) to be their toughest opponent while the high school team looks at Cebu Institute of Technology as challenging.

The tournament, which officially opens today at UV Theresita Square, will have a single round-robin format in four rounds while the remaining two rounds will be set tomorrow. If the players could finish all the rounds earlier today, the games will continue with the last two remaining rounds, said Marsha. (NSM)
