Jaguars maul Greywolves in Partners Cup

THE Bibbo Hotdog-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars inked their second victory in the Reinforced Partners’ Cup after defeating Unilab Alaxan-Don Bosco College Greywolves, 101-81, Tuesday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Bibbo-USJR showed its might despite being the only team not allowed to get reinforcements and after missing the services of its top gunners Luther Justiniani and Manny Gabas, it still put up a gallant fight to wipe out the Greywolves.

USJ-R is the only team in the top four of the Cesafi to have joined the Partners Cup—a tournament for Cesafi-member schools—as University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos and fourth placer Southwestern University opted to play in another tournament.

With the help of their imports, the Greywolves actually kept the game close and were only lagging by three points, 17-20, in the first period.

Run

However, the Jaguars blasted off with a 15-0 run in the second period to pad their lead to 37-24. Bibbo barely felt the absence of Justiniani and Gabas as Gabe Delfino, Armand Ponce, Jan Malinao and Lyndon Gudez made sure that the holes the two left will be filled as they widened the gap to more than 20 at the end of the first half.

Alaxan initiated a comeback, cutting the lead by just 12, but was foiled when Gudez scored successive baskets to seal their win.

This is USJ-R’s second victory, while Don Bosco suffered its second straight loss.

Delfino topscored for the Jaguars with 23 points, while Ponce and Gudez, added 17 and 15 markers, respectively.

Record

Today, Bibbo-USJ-R will again stake its unbeaten record when it takes on Metro Gaisano-Cebu Institute of Technology in the first game at 4:30 p.m. Aspac Bank-University of Cebu will also try to extend its slate when it takes on Unilab/Alaxan-DBC in the main offering at 6 p.m.

Bibbo Hotdog-USJ-R (101)—Delfino 13, Ponce 17, Gudez 15, Soliman 9, Pateno 9, Duran 9, Malinao 6, Eguia 4, Lapiz 3, Bibera 2, Pogoy 1. Unilab/Alaxan-DBC (80)—Aldave 15, Apuar 12, Enterina 11, Sunga 10, Caballero 8, Alferez 7, Colegado 5, Perturbos 4, Villaver 3, Sasuman 2, Delos Santos 1. (MCB)
