Fajardo leads UC in overcoming Don Bosco

JUNMAR Fajardo’s star continued to shine in the Reinforced Partners Cup as he again led Aspac Bank-University of Cebu Webmasters to their second straight win after defeating Unilab/Alaxan-Don Bosco College, 100-90, Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Showing no signs of the injury that sidelined him for the past months, the 6-foot-7 Fajaro rocked the house by scoring 30 points for UC.

Fajardo’ stellar performance lasted all game long as he scored 22 points in the first half.

Fajardo was given a well-deserved rest, but with him out of the game, UC was in disarray as they allowed the Greywolves, led by Rick Perturbos, to outscore them 19-0 and pull closer by just six points, 69-75.

Sensing trouble, Fajardo was sent back into the fray along with Allain Abellanosa, who then scored ten more points for UC to seal its second victory.

It was Unilab/Alaxan’s third loss in the competition.

In the other game, Bibbo Hotdog-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars did everything to fend off Metro Gaisano-Cebu Institute of Technology gritty reinforcement to win, 95-84.

Jerry Jaca, a former PBA draftee, became a source of USJ-R’s headache as he single-handedly kept his alma mater afloat, chalking up 33 points. The seeded USJ-R and the usual doormat CIT were at par in the first half of the game.

Jaca virtually did the job for CIT but with the Jaguars' equal distribution of the ball, the USJ-R squad managed snatch the game’s favor to their side.

Behind its volleyball stalwart turned basketball player Abulaiz Sulaiman, Armand Ponce, Bobby Hatague, Jabe Delfino and Jan Malinao, USJR dispensed a 16-4 run to take control of the game going into the final canto. (MCB)
