Saturday, December 15, 2007 Final leg of RP Scrabble open starts today in Mall of Asia
SCRABLE players from all over the country will play at the individual final leg of the Philippine Open Scrabble today at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
The tournament is divided into two categories: the professional which has at least 40 players competing and the beginners and student category for the elementary and high school students, which has 30 players. It will use the king of the hill format and the players with the highest spreads after nine rounds of play will be declared winners.
Cebuano ace scrabble player and world campaigner Teodoro Martus Jr., yesterday could not say what his chances are in the tournament with fellow world campaigners Carmela Odette Rio and Renaldo Credo also joining.
Martus said he will give all his best in the tournament.
He said Rio, who finished 27th in the world scrabble championship and recently joined the elite team in the Causeway Scrabble Challenge in Malaysia after finishing eight place, and Credo are his toughest opponents in their category.
Other players to watch are those who saw action in the Malaysia tourney: Marlon Prudencio, Oscar Rivera, Robie Oñate, and retired police colonel Antonio Malonzo. (NSM)
