Saturday, December 15, 2007 Sismundo wins on points over Salim
BOHOLANO Ricky Sismundo of the Harada Boxing Stable of Tagbilaran City scored a hard-earned majority decision win over Reman Salim of Bacolod City Thursday night.
Sismundo’s victory in the bantamweight division came at the main event of the ALA Promotions and Norkis Group of Companies boxing card at the Paseo Food and Entertainment Center in Mabolo, Cebu City.
Sismundo found his rhythm in the second round after allowing Salim to dominate at the opening bell.
Sismundo neutralized his reach disadvantage by throwing more punches to the head and body of Salim.
Salim solved Sismundo’s game in the ninth and 10th rounds but it was too late as the Boholano fighter had already piled up points.
Judges Edward Ligas and Salven Lagumbay both scored 96-94 for Sismundo while Edgar Olalo called it an even 95-95.
The win improved Sismundo to an 8-2, 2KOs record while Salim dropped to 15-9, with 4KOs.
It was Sismundo’s second win after losing to Weng Haya last October in Bantayan. It was Salim’s fourth straight defeat after four successive wins.
In the other fight, Mark John Yap stayed undefeated following a unanimous decision win over Marjo Borres.
The taller Yap dominated the bout from the onset, using his longer reach to keep Borres at bay all throughout the bout’s eight rounds.
Rey Villar of North Cotabato ended his pro debut in a split draw against “Idolo” semifinalist Alberto Simbajon of Guindolman, Bohol.
The card was also supported by Kopiko 3-in-1, Tita Gwapa and Y101 FM. (RCM)
