Capitol to check town fiestas to ensure no lewd shows

A COMMITTEE under the Provincial Women’s Council will be sending a team to different towns of the Province during fiestas.

This is to ensure that there will be no lewd and indecent shows as part of the activities for the fiesta celebration.

Provincial Board Member Agnes Magpale said the committee is now drawing up guidelines for the shows.

After that, the PWC team will use the guidelines as basis in assessing the different shows in the towns.

Magpale said they hope to start implementing it early next year.

It can be recalled that Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia walked out of a beauty pageant in the southern town of Boljoon after she found the show lewd as a scantily dressed woman gyrated on stage in the opening number.

Since then, she has vowed not to give financial assistance to towns for their activities for their fiesta if they hold these kinds of shows.

Danao example

In the last Provincial Development Council meeting, Garcia announced this policy to all mayors and other officials in attendance.

Garcia wants the town to follow Danao City on how it chooses its Miss Danao.

The barangays send entries for the Karansa Festival and the festival queens of each entry are the candidates for Miss Danao.

Candidates are judged not only according to their beauty but also on how well they perform the dances of the Karansa Festival. (MBG)
