UC rules athletics with 22 golds

THE University of Cebu is again set to dominate athletics event in the ongoing Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc which started yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

UC raked in 22 golds, 23 silvers and 7 bronzes in the medal haul, while the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) is way beyond at second place with a total of 6-7-10 b. The University of San Jose-Recoletos is in third spot, scooping 6-1-1 in the medal tally.

It was an all-UC show in the high school contest as they they scooped all the gold medals, finishing with a 16-10-3. USPF only got four silvers and six bronzes, and USJR who only settled for its lone silver medal.

UC’s got two golds each from Jean Racoma, (400 and 100m hurdles), Junrey Andales (400 and 800m hurdles), Darl Pitogo (110m hurdles and triple jump), Sunday Joy Modelo (shut put and discus throw), Jasper Basister (shut put and discus throw), Ariel Dayondon (high jump and pole event) and Kaori Uirichan Lleons (high jump and pole event.)

Winners

The team also got a gold from Sheena Gacayan (800m hurdles), Carl Jeanette Malasarte (5, 000m), Lindley Nabasa (200m hurdles), Lera Dela Calsado (200m hurdles), and Irin Baluran (triple jump).

On the other hand, UC managed to grab 6-13-4 in the tertiary level with USPF and USJ-R try at second and third with 6-3-4 and 6-0-1, respectively, in the medal tally.

The Southwestern University was able to snatch two golds courtesy of Leo Abello in the 10K Walk and Eden Dampios in the 3K Walk in the women’s division.

On the other hand, UC got two golds each from Joerge Pinanong and Janice Ann Bautista. Pinanong won the 400 and 200m hurdles, while Bautista topped the 100m and 400m hurdles.

The triple jump women’s event was won by Angela Sarrah Siocon, while Anselmo Esgana took the gold in the Men’s high jump and pole vault.

Records

USPF’s Harren Melendres also got two golds when he topped the 110m men’s hurdles and the triple jump, while Ryancel Ledamo added another first place finish in the 800m run and Pearl Berona took the gold in the 5,000m.

USJ-R’s Angelica Lado contributed two golds after dominating the shot put and discus throw in her division, Jefferson Querobin also had two golds in shot put and discus throw. Divina Catanda and Love Joy Intong added two more golds for USJ-R after winning the 800m and 200m hurdles, respectively. (NSM)
