Lapu-Lapu City targets revenue increase

LAPU-LAPU City overshot its revenue collection target last year by some P45 million and hopes to do better this year—at least P32 million better.

From January to August 2007, the City collected P446.42 million in revenues, or an average of P55.8 million a month. Last year, the monthly average was P50 million.

The Local Finance Committee is confident the City will earn at least P32 million more than it did last year, if every department will do religiously the tasks assigned to them.

Rolando Duero, who represents the mayor’s office in the committee, said that if only the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority MCIAA and the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) paid their obligations, the City would earn more.

Lapu-Lapu City collected P600.66 million in revenues last year, the bulk of it from an increase in real property tax collections and income from local public enterprises.

For its efficiency, the City got a high 4.45 rating in administration in the Department of Interior and Local Government’s annual evaluation through the Local Government Performance Management System (LGPMS).

Data released by the LGPMS also showed that the City spent only 31 percent on personnel.

Mayor Arturo Radaza had said the MCIAA’s obligations to the City run close to a billion pesos and that he will press the City’s right to collect as soon as the MCIAA’s Charter is amended, giving the host city a seat in the airport board. (AIV)
