Widow, 91, killed in Dumanjug

A 91-YEAR-OLD widow was found dead in her house yesterday morning and was reportedly hacked by a neighbor in Sitio Ubal, Barangay Liong, Dumanjug.

Augustina Pilar suffered several hack wounds, the most fatal being a blow that nearly cut her face in half.

Police are also trying to find out if she was raped.

Responding officers found Pilar’s underwear down to her legs while some pubic hairs were found in one of Pilar’s hands.

Police believe the incident happened at about 2 a.m. as neighbors heard a noise coming from her house.

Since Pilar lived at a distance from her neighbors and that the noise later stopped, the neighbors ignored it.

Arrested was Joel Belocura, 27, after someone told the police that he was seen leaving Pilar’s house with bloodstains all over his clothes.

When PO3 Saul Alejandria and PO2 Dandan Villardan found Belocura, he was still dressed in a bloodied t-shirt and shorts. He was reportedly about to flee.

They also recovered a bolo which they believe was used in killing Pilar.

Senior Insp. Ricardo Nayne, Dumanjug Police Chief, said they were still checking if there were any other items missing from her house because Pilar lived alone.

Her two daughters, a geologist and a businesswoman, are all based in Manila.

Her nephew Carlito discovered her dead at 7 a.m. when he went to her house to bring her food.

He said Belocura admitted to the crime, saying he killed Pilar because she was strict and was stingy.

Watch

He also reportedly admitted to sniffing rugby.

At the police station, Belocura allegedly handed over a watch to one of the police officers and asked him to pawn it so he can use the cash when he is in jail.

But when Carlito overheard them, he noticed that the watch belonged to his aunt, strengthening their suspicions that he robbed Pilar.

Nayne said they will submit Pilar’s body for an autopsy to determine if she was raped.

He added that they will also have Belocura undergo a drug test. (MEA)
