Thursday, December 20, 2007 Saving Ryan, Juday By Leticia Suarez-Orendain
THE movie Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo is a humorous take on marriage. It is directed by Josie Javier Reyes, the multi-awarded director of Sakal’s precursor Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo(2006). It became a monster hit and hoarded awards (Famas and the Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF). The lead stars in the sequel are real-life sweethearts Judy Ann “Juday” Santos and Ryan.
Here’s an excerpt (transalated from Tagalog) on Sakal’s online press conference and interview held on Dec. 18 with showbiz writers from Manila, Cebu and Davao.
Question: If Juday and Ryan do get married, how many kids would they have; where would be the wedding and honeymoon?
Judy Ann (JA): Four but we decided on two. We’ve got one in Yuan, so just one more. The church, but we don’t know yet.
Honeymoon? We’ll go to a place where we’d both be alien—it could be Mars or the moon. Travel . . . we want to do Vietnam, Southeast Asia.
Ryan Agoncillo (RA): Judy wants to do an Angelina Jolie!
Question: They say it’s more difficult to make people laugh, so how do you prepare yourself when doing a comedy?
JA: You can easily relate to it because you see yourself in the movie’s character. There’s no effort. If the situations are really funny, the dialogues—those are the very things used as punch lines when you’re with friends. It’s realistic.
Question: How are you taking the expectations surrounding the sequel, not just to repeat last year’s box-office success, but also to sweep this year’s MMFF major awards?
JA: Prayer. We don’t want to expect anything, aside from the fact that people will enjoy the movie. It’s for the family. Awards would just be bonuses.
Question: Is there sakalan (choking) in your relationship?
JA: We haven’t “choked” each other yet. I leave Ryan to his hobbies. Ryan also allows me my hobbies. We don’t know for sure. We aren’t married yet.
Question: What situation will make you say you need space?
RA: Stay away from my motor(cycle). Judy Ann doesn’t tell me to quit my hobby—my motorcycle.
JA: It’s much better for me if he rides on his motorcycle than on something else. You will do everything to make it work when you’re married. I’m sure you’ll compromise because you love the family
Question: Please explain adventure when it comes to dating.
JA: Bonding moment is watching three movies in a day; a movie marathon.
We wan to try new things, those things that people wouldn’t think we’d try.
RA: We’re adrenalin junkies. We love scaring our selves: scuba, bungee, and motorcycle and car racing. We’re always together when trying new things together. It was in Thailand we did bungee jumping
Question: What shouldn’t be absent in a wedding; what type would you like?
