Drug cases send 2 women to jail
A MOTHER was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison for the possession of nine packets of shabu, while a 37-year-old scavenger has to spend the rest of her life in jail for selling illegal drugs.
Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Gabriel Ingles of Branch 58 also fined Angelita Rosales P300,000 and Cristine Giba, P500,000.
Rosales, a housewife, was arrested in August 2005.
PO2 Edgar Baton testified that on Aug. 21, 2005, they responded to a snatching alarm. While on their way to the crime scene, they saw Rosales examining a plastic pack. When she was frisked, eight more packets of shabu were found.
Rosales denied Baton’s testimony. She narrated that she was sleeping with her children when a man called her. When she opened the door, she was arrested, not knowing what she had done.
In Giba’s case, Judge Ingles was more convinced by the testimonies of the police officers that they arrested her in a buy-bust operation, rather than Giba’s statement that she was inside her house resting.
Giba also alleged that the arresting officers demanded P15,000 from her.
However, the court noted that the testimony of the accused contradicted that of her witness. (KNT)
