Thursday, December 20, 2007 Donaire, promoter patches up differences
GARY Show, the US promoter who lost Manny Pacquiao, may get to keep another Pinoy boxing champion in his fold.
This after Shaw, promoter of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, said they have both worked out their differences after a telephone call this week.
Donaire and Shaw had a conflict this month after the Filipino IBF and IBO champion claimed in a radio interview that he was mistreated by his boxing promoter during his first title defense against Luis Maldonado.
The champion claimed he wasn’t given enough time to prepare for his fight with Maldonado and said Shaw was against his training in the Philippines.
During fight night, his promoter was beside the challenger’s family in front row, while Donaire’s family was a few rows behind.
Shaw said in a report posted at Philboxing.com that he had spoken with the Filipino champion in an overseas telephone conversation and both of them are getting along right now and acknowledged they both need to discuss things about his career personally.
“Everything is fine,” said Shaw. “Donaire and I need to sit down and discuss various aspects of his career. He understands he can be a big star but there are stuffs that he must meet in order to become a big star,” Shaw said in the report posted at philboxing.com
Shaw’s plan for Donaire’s next title defense depends on how fast his injured left hand will heal. Donaire admitted he injured his left hand in the second round of his fight with Maldonado.
“I want to check out his hand and make sure that it’s really right,” said Shaw.
The tentative fight date of Donaire next title defense may be around April 2008 and might be held here in the Philippines according to his promoter. (EKA)
